Stands of native forest form a critical part of the ‘Hutt Valley bird corridor’. One is in Korokoro Valley which contains mature kahikatea, mataī, rata, and rimu trees. On the western side in Cannons Creek, a remnant stand of tawa/kohekohe forest includes kahikatea, mataī, rimu, and tōtara.

Several freshwater fish, including giant kōkopu (native trout), survive in Korokoro Stream and green forest geckos have been recorded.
