We believe the social, environmental, and ecological effects of the activities of corporations (particularly multi-nationals) are now so serious and far reaching that their management can no longer be left to just businesses or ‘market forces’. We aim to provide information that will assist people to make puchasing decisions based on the future they want.

Environmental Choice New Zealand

Environmental Choice New Zealand labelEnvironmental Choice is an environmental labelling programme created to help consumers find products that ease the burden on the environment. The programme results from a New Zealand Government initiative and International Accreditation New Zealand manages it on behalf of the Minister for the Environment.

Food Database

Launched in May 1999 this lists 100 foods claiming to be genetic-engineering free. Set up by a joint team of Green Party members, staff of St Martins New World in Christchurch, and RAGE.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)

FSC labelThe international organisation coordinating independaent certification of good forest management. Supported by FoE, Greenpeace, WWF, and others.

GMO Free Food List

A list of prominent food and beverage manufacturing and retail companies in New Zealand, their policies on genetically modified ingredients and ingredients made with the aid of genetically modified organisms.

Good Wood Guide

A listing of environmentally sensitive timber and wood products merchants and retailers. Includes the contents of the classic 1992 Good Wood Guide, with an information update, and results of the 1998 survey of timber suppliers and timber-related businesses. An excellent resource to read before purchasing timber.

Murrellen Pork

Certified farm under the New Zealand Pork Quality Programme. Instead of measuring animal welfare by cruelty, they instead monitor welfare in its most subtle form, stress.

New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development (NZBCSD)

A coalition of leading New Zealand companies united by a shared commitment to balanced social, environmental, and economic development. A partner organisation to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

New Zealand Businesses for Social Responsibility (NZBSR)

Their vision is to advance New Zealand through socially responsible business. Members are from the business community and understand that socially responsible business practice is a desirable end in itself, and can also contribute to the financial success of individual business.
